Insights from our Luo trip

We have been back just a couple of weeks from our production trip with the Luo people in Kenya. And we are still processing all that we learned and experienced during the production.

REACHING THE LUO

Before we left, we knew that there was great need for the gospel to reach oral learners among the Luo people. There are more than five million Luo people primarily in Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania. Among that number, only 10% are considered evangelical.

But even within that group who might describe themselves as Christian, there is great need. Many of them have never read the Bible, or ever attended a church. Others might go to a church that has a twisted view of God, such as the prosperity gospel, or a church that teaches that you cannot know for certain whether you are going to heaven.

IDOL WORSHIP IN KENYA

During this trip, we also learned of a sect that is unique to the Luo people.

Thousands upon thousands of Luo will come to worship this rock that rises up from the brush. Their followers believe, if they offer sacrifices to this rock, their needs and desires will be granted.

Our mission partner, Betty Achieng, has a grandmother who was part of this group. She shares why the Luo people need to receive the Bible in a way they can hear and understand.

YOU ARE TELLING OTHERS ABOUT JESUS!

So many of you faithfully give every month so that OneMessage.tv can share the true gospel with oral learners in their heart language. And many others gave specifically towards this production trip. We just want to thank all of you. This work is not possible without partners and senders like you!
