We wanted to thank each of you for all of your prayers and support on our recent Kenya trip to the Rendille people.
Any time we begin work with a new people group, these questions pop up:
How enthusiastic will our new group of actors be? (Answer: The Rendille actors were extremely enthusiastic!)
What kind of locations will we be able to find, to set the scenes? (Answer: The scenes were new and unique!)
How hot will it get? (Answer: The temperature wasn’t too bad.)
There were new challenges related to the drought in the area and the resulting food insecurity. Most of the tribes in this area survive by herding goats, sheep, and camels. But the dry conditions have made grazing land to feed their herds hard to come by. As a result, there has been unrest -- so much so that there was a 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. curfew to combat it.
Fortunately, the only impact on us was the urgency to get each day’s recording finished before the curfew. Thank you for your prayers.
Despite the challenges, we were able to successfully complete the recording of the first 10 video Bible stories. We were even able to capture all 10 narrations!
One last thought: Islam is dramatically growing. We saw evidence of this in both Turkana and the area where the Rendille live. There are places in Africa where we cannot safely or openly record these videos because there would be persecution, either for us, or for anyone who would work with us.
The rapid spread of Islam emphasizes the urgency of reaching as many people groups as possible now, while we still have access to record stories in this way. Thank you for sharing this sense of urgency!
To wrap up, the trip was a great success, and we look forward to beginning the editing stage and sharing the videos with you. Thank you so much for your prayers and support. None of this is possible without you and the rest of the OneMessage.tv community.
P.S. We still have a need for funds to complete this project. We have had to dip into our reserves to pay for this most recent trip. We need almost $6,000 to pay for the production and travel costs. And we need another $8,000 to pay for the editing and delivery of the videos to the Rendille tribe.
Your tax-deductible gifts are a vital part of our work. Without you, none of this would be possible. Please consider giving today to help us pay for this project!
